Stay Energised, Balanced, and Strong this Winter Season - Immunity with Ross J. Barr

As the UAE crazy season kicks off, it’s not just our wardrobes that need a winter refresh —our health and immunity take center stage too.

With social calendars packed, festive indulgences in full swing, and friends and family flying in from every corner of the globe, it’s the season where our bodies can feel the strain and instead of glowing we end up blowing.

So when I started thinking about how to best prepare for this busy, buzzy season, I knew exactly who to call. Ross J. Barr wellness expert and renowned acupuncturist, Ross is celebrated for both his incredibly warm approach but mainly the results he achieves for his clients.   I've been blown away his immunity back this year and I wanted to pick his brain on everything I wanted to from lifestyle to his game-changing Immunity Pack.

What follows is a conversation packed with wisdom and tips that will have you thriving—not just surviving—this winter season.

What are the simplest ways to protect our health and stay energised this winter?

"The basics are unbeatable," says Ross. "Get to bed early, eat well, and rest."

His advice is ''not exhaust yourself as it only ends in depletion. Keep it simple, prioritise rest when you need it, maintain balance, and give your immunity a boost with some key supplements''

Why do we find ourselves more susceptible to illness during winter and what remedies do you recommend?

''Cold weather doesn’t directly cause illnesses'', but it does create biological changes that make it easier for infections to take a hold. That’s why boosting our immunity can be a game changer.

Reduced sunlight is another factor for most of the northern hemisphere, this impacts Vitamin D levels. Combine this with increased socialising and less rest, and it’s easy to see why winter leaves us vulnerable.

''Eat nourishing whole foods add broths if you can, prioritize downtime, and supplement smartly."

I've become obsessed with the Ross J. Barr Immunity Pack—what is it that makes it so effective?

"I created the Immunity Pack around four pillars of immunity health, using the purest whole-food supplements to work in harmony with the body."

The Vitamin D formula is essential for immune function and bone health, especially during the months when sunlight is less. Vitamin C plays a critical role in maintaining a healthy immune system while also supporting collagen production and iron absorption.

Selenium is a key mineral for immune support and energy production, while Zinc and Copper help balance the immune system and support cellular repair.

Our Zinc formula is combined with copper to avoid copper deficiency, as zinc and copper compete for same absorption sites.

Together, these supplements form a comprehensive toolkit to help your body stay strong and resilient."

Beyond supplements, how can we maintain health during the winter?

"Eat warming, easy-to-digest foods—soups, broths, and cooked meals. Avoid raw, cold foods that are harder for the body to process.

In the mornings, I like to start with grounding rituals. For me, this includes a cold plunge in my garden, followed by alternating hot and cold showers. These practices wake up the body and keep adrenaline anchored for the day. I also avoid looking at my phone for at least 30 minutes after waking up—this helps me start the day proactively, rather than reacting to external factors."

What are your personal rules for stress management?

"Never drink coffee if you’re already feeling anxious or stressed—it only amplifies the problem. I also try to focus on simple activities that ground me. Watching a movie without distractions, like we used to in the 1990s, is surprisingly effective. There’s something about fully committing to an activity, without phones or laptops, that allows you to truly relax.

Acupuncture, adaptogens, and Calm Patches are also part of my routine. But ultimately, it’s about listening to what your body and mind need—and sometimes, that means doing less, not more."

Closing my quick chat with Ross, he has a patient arriving, he summarised:

"The basics are still the original and most powerful medicine. Rest, nourishing food, and prioritising your well-being are what truly sustain you. Winter is about conserving and restoring energy—if you listen to your body, supplement if you need to, it will thank you."
